At the HortiFair in Amsterdam, Pöppelmann applied to the Dutch courts to take decisive action against a special case of product piracy. The Chinese company Jiangxi Kangfei Plastics Co. Ltd. has not only specifically copied TEKU pots, it has even adopted the Pöppelmann item numbers.
After Pöppelmann discovered the counterfeits, last Thursday a bailiff confiscated the copies of various deep-drawn pots and containers directly from the Chinese manufacturer's trade show booth.
"It is not the first time that competitors have tried to copy our products," explains Günther Orschulik, Head of Development at Pöppelmann TEKU. "However, it is the first time that they have exhibited the copies so audaciously in Central Europe."
Consequently, Pöppelmann continues to focus on patent protection for its developments. It was only due to this patent protection that they could obtain a confiscation order from a Dutch court during the trade show.
"We have now sent out a clear signal that we are keeping our eyes open and know how to defend ourselves," stresses Matthias Lesch, Head of Marketing and Sales at Pöppelmann. The ongoing legal process continues. "We will of course vigorously pursue all legal avenues in future to prevent the distribution of any such copies."
