Optimised cultivation trays for better results

Modern plant production without the use of technology is unthinkable. Accordingly, the cultivation trays used must be 100% machine-compatible. “Absolutely trouble-free” is the seal of quality of the new TEKU EP 2128-20 combined culture and sales tray from Pöppelmann. Focusing on growers, the product developers paid special attention when designing the edges and individual pots to ensure the pallets can be stacked and separated without difficulty.

That was the first and most important step towards smooth operation of the production lines with automated filling and sowing, as well as pricking robots. The outstanding manufacturing quality of the tray edges and cells makes the horticulturist’s life easier right through to when the seedlings are planted out. The well-thought-out TEKU quality also offers wider benefits.

Precision-cut holes in the base of the individual cells are another important factor in successful cultivation. These holes facilitate straightforward watering and drainage. With their optimised design, the individual cells now each hold 110 ml of growing medium. The slightly conical shape encourages plants to form healthy root balls which are easily released from the tray with a gentle tap to the base. The trays are 21 cm wide, 28 cm long, 6 cm high and comprise 20 small pots. Thus, the grower can grow 335 plants per square metre, making full use of the available surface area.

The flat base allows the TEKU EP 2128-20 trays to be easily transported on conveyor belts or roller conveyors, e.g. for dispatch. All sales and marketing staff will appreciate the manufacturing quality of the tray edges. The optimised outer dimensions of the trays are an advantage here, too. One CC layer accommodates 12 x 20 plants. This optimum utilisation of capacity clearly offers nurseries genuine added value by saving on transport costs.

Labels or carrying handles can easily be mechanically attached through the slots provided. Here, too, the benefits are in the little details, such as the conical carrying handle slot, which makes fitting considerably easier. In addition, the TEKU EP 2128-20 trays have a high edge for clear visibility of adhesive labels.

Naturally, the production of the new trays is integrated into Pöppelmann’s monitored, eco-friendly materials management system. Careful processing of recycled plastics means growers can always count on high-quality products. These benefits can only be offered by a company where innovation and an appreciation of customer requirements go hand in hand.
