Protective plugs for hydraulic manifold ports

The KAPSTO Division of Pöppelmann GmbH & Co. KG Kunststoffwerk – Werkzeugbau, Lohne/Germany, has developed a special protective plug for sealing the ports of hydraulic manifolds (STH connections). This plug performs all protective functions from the completion of manufacture of a hydraulic manifold right up until its final assembly and connection to the hydraulic system. This newly developed plug

- protects and seals the ports in a finish-machined hydraulic manifold until it is finally assembled and connected up to the system,

- remains dimensionally stable even at high temperatures and will therefore withstand the rigours of washing at 80 °C and the subsequent painting process,

- maintains an effective seal against the egress of hydraulic oil up to an internal pressure of 1 bar – this pressure is caused by the increase in temperature during washing and painting.

This protective plug is injection moulded from a particularly abrasion resistant thermoplastic polyester elastomer. This ensures that no particles are rubbed off when the plug is being fitted or removed, thus preventing possible contamination of the hydraulic system. The plug is available in nominal diameters 6, 10 and 16 mm, is easy to fit and can be easily removed with a special tool. This new, application-specific development underscores the KAPSTO Division's competence not only as a manufacturer of a steadily growing range of standard parts but also as a developer of protective elements that reach far beyond standard customer requirements. The STH connections of hydraulic manifold ports enjoy wide use, for example, in the automotive industry for hydraulic steering, clutch, gearshift and brake systems, and also in other industries for general hydraulic applications. Constantly undergoing further development and improvement and manufactured in Pöppelmann's own production facilities, the standard KAPSTO range comprises more than 3,000 different plastic protective plugs and caps for immediate ex stock delivery.  Special versions, e.g. plugs combining sealing and assembling functions, can be designed and developed by Pöppelmann's own team of application engineers exactly in accordance with customer requirements.
